Phosphorus
Phosphorus is the second most represented mineral in the human body. We find it in bones, teeth, blood and other human tissues. Plays an important role in some important biochemical reactions.
Phosphorus functions
- contributes to the maintenance of acid-base balance (pH levels maintainance)
- positively affects the quality of bones and teeth (it is important for physical growth)
- contributes to the proper functioning of muscles and nerves
- regulates phosphate homeostasis by hormones
Recommended daily intake is about 800 to 1200mg. It can be found in red meat, fish, eggs, cereals, nuts and legumes.

Since most of it one gets from everyday food, its lack is very rare. When there is a lack, one suffers from physical fatigue, weakening of bones, teeth and bleeding gums.
